In CORVETTE SUMMER there's suspense right off the bat. Once Kenny sees the car of his dreams, can he save it from the junk yard trash compactor? Wait a minute... A trash compactor. 

Does that sound familiar? Well it wasn't a new concept for MARK HAMIL who, in STAR WARS, nearly became a human scrape heap. 

THE VISION

Kenny Dantley (Mark Hamill) gets a vision that will change his life. While on a field trip to an auto junkyard, things were looking down for the bored teen until something drops from the sky. Newton's Apple's got nothing on a CORVETTE... 

This discovery alters Kenny's existence just like that hologram did for Hamill's Luke Skywalker in STAR WARS.

JUNKYARD BLUES

There's nothing better for an auto shop class than a visit to the local junkyard, right? The skeletons of vehicles being carried around by giant metallic arms and junk spread throughout the auto graveyard: the possibilities are endless for a car enthusiast... Especially one like Kenny Dantley (Mark Hamill), who, unlike his friends, has the knowledge and capability to build a car from scratch... Or droids!

"I have to get a Power Converter for my Corvette!"

Searching for hope...

And moments before the frame of the Corvette enters his vision, thus changing everything, Dantley has an expression of a lost, vacant soul: a young man who hasn't found his way. Much like Luke Skywalker staring off at the double-suns of Tatooine, his niche has yet to be carved.

DISCO CHROME

The 1970's. You can't recreate that magic. The opening credits for CORVETTE SUMMER has a font for the title that can be best described as DISCO CHROME.

OPENING IMAGES

The first shot of CORVETTE SUMMER has a car being hauled back slowly in a junk yard. Then a forklift pummels into the car and we see name of the movie....  

STAR WARS opens up with two spaceships cruising through space, and they too merge together. 

Call this similarity a reach, fine. But that's okay. It's all part of the Corvette Jedi Order. Welcome aboard...

When poor Kenny chases the red, or rather, orange herring into a casino where he's sure to find his cherished Corvette, it turns out to be a DATSUN 240-Z (do I have the right model, motorheads?)... 

Now can you imagine a movie called DATSUN SUMMER standing the test of time?

SCREWDRIVER

How to make a Vanessa Screwdriver. First, buy some orange juice in a plastic carton. Then buy a bottle of vodka. Any brand of vodka will do... Then, drink some of the vodka; then some orange juice. Also, you need to have a van, or use of a van, with a bed inside. And last but certainly not least, for best results you need Vanessa. At which point you'll have the ultimate Screwdriver experience.
